Gloria Guevara is the current frontrunner candidate for the next secretary-general of UN-Tourism, the United Nations’ specialized agency for tourism, and has a bold vision for tourism’s future, which includes resilience and opportunities. Africa has so many opportunities, and so does tourism to Africa from the United States.
African Tourism Board USA is proud to support Gloria Guevara in her campaign. Gloria just returned from Africa and loves the continent’s diversity and opportunities. She also understands Africa’s geopolitical challenges and special needs, has brainstormed with ministers and industry leaders on recent trips to the continent, and has already started an Africa discussion group.
When informed of the African Tourism Board’s marketing in the United States, she responded, “How can I help?”
This was an easy answer. Gloria has many friends and is highly respected among the top CEOs of the world’s largest and most influential travel and tourism companies, many of which are based in the United States.
As the former CEO of the World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC), she safely maneuvered the travel industry through the COVID-19 crisis and was known as the most powerful woman in tourism. She started the famous SAFE TRAVELS campaign, which many African governments and stakeholders adopted.
Her support for the African Tourism Board Marketing USA could be a game changer for investments and expansion for Africa by leading travel companies. Her influence goes way beyond conferences, summits, or meetings. At the same time, Gloria’s passion is bringing large and small players in this industry together. She understands how SMEs function, their struggles, and their dreams.
Coming from a country that relies on tourism and has some security challenges, Gloria understands the importance of safety, peace, and communication for tourism to flourish.
As the CEO of the World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC), she maneuvered the private sector of the travel industry through the COVID-19 crisis as one of the most powerful women.
With her experience in both the private and public sectors as a former Minister of Tourism for Mexico herself, she shaped tourism in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia as the top advisor for the Saudi Tourism Minister.
ATB USA is proud of Gloria’s pledge to help ATB USA use her influence and position to promote Africa as a growing destination not only in the U.S. but also anywhere in the world. This support would not only improve ATB’s representation of African destinations and tourism companies in the United States, but such an understanding and connection between the private and public sectors will take UN-Tourism to a new day.
With her joining UN-Tourism as the new secretary general, it would truly be a new day for this organization, for the world of tourism, for Africa, and even for non-members such as the United States and others.
African Tourism Board USA invited Gloria Guevara to its executive board.
